"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house." Matthew 5:14-15

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it." Matthew 13:45-46

Rainy Day

It's a rainy and cool day here in PA. I actually like this kind of weather. It is good for sleeping in if you have the opportunity, which I did this morning. It also is the kind of day where you think about hot apple cider, or a warm bowl of soup, baking cookies or curling up with a good book.

The house is quiet. One of my boys is off working today and the other is meeting with his Barnabas mentor. I cherish those rare times when I get some time alone. It does not happen very frequently, but I realize it won't be long before the house will consistently be quiet. So I also cherish those 'noisy' times as well.

It has been an up and down week for me with highs and lows. Right now we are in a situation where we feel the need to be still and wait and rely on God. Not something I do that well. I want to have a plan. I pray that I can apply Psalm 46:10 to my life each day, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." My tendency is to be a planner. Being still isn't always easy. Often we fell the need to 'do' something while waiting, but there are times when we need to just be still and rest.

This reminds me of when the boys were young and would fight falling off to sleep. They would be in constant motion, trying to stay awake. It wasn't until they stilled their bodies that they could fall into a peaceful rest. At times we fight against God or whatever situation we are in, when all we need to do is crawl in our Daddy's lap and just rest in Him.

Are you fighting or resting today?

What a great example .....a child fighting sleep.....when sleep is what will make him feel refreshed and ready to go again! I needed that! I'm afraid I have not been getting the "rest" in the Lord that I need lately!

God bless!
