"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house." Matthew 5:14-15

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it." Matthew 13:45-46

Called By Your Name

When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down because today I must stay at your house.” Luke 19:5

The Our Daily Bread reading this morning got me to thinking. The Scripture reading came from Luke 19:1-10, the familiar tale you often hear as a child in Sunday School about Zacchaeus climbing the tree in order to see Jesus.

I've heard it many times, but what struck me this time as I read through was that Jesus called Zacchaeus by name. Jesus knew exactly who Zacchaeus was. He knew him by name. They may have never met before, but still Jesus knew him.

For me, it was a great reminder how Jesus calls us each by name. He desires for us to have fellowship with him. He's calling your name. Have you responded to Him?

I read Our Daily Bread, too. Those thoughts on Jesus and Zacchaeus were particularly inspiring.
