"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house." Matthew 5:14-15

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it." Matthew 13:45-46

D is for Delight on Blog Hop Friday

A to Z blog hop at Patterings.
Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
Psalm 37:3-6

I've been thinking all week about what the topic should be for this week's blog hop. There are so many wonderful things that start with the letter D. But God kept continuing to place on my heart the word 'delight'.

Dictionary.com defines delight as 'a high degree of pleasure or enjoyment; joy; rapture'.

I ask you, and myself, "How often do I experience joy, pleasure, enjoyment, or rapture when it comes to my relationship with the Lord? Is it something I encounter every day? Week? Month? Or does it only happen when something goes the way I was hoping and planning. Do I only delight in the Lord when he gives me the desires of my heart, or do I also delight in Him during those tough times when I don't think I can handle one more thing going wrong?"

I honestly can say that this is a topic to wrestle with and examine and strive toward. This scripture from Psalm 37 also says that when we commit to the Lord and trust in Him, "He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun."

How are you doing at delighting in the Lord? What do you need to change in your life to get to that point?

This is such a great verse, but it's so easy to get caught up in our own drama that we forget God is in control and it's His excellence we should strive for.

Maybe I should go back to last week and change my word to...CONVICTION.
Love this post, Digging for Pearls. I'm going to chew all weekend on this, especially since I've been grumbling for two weeks now. DELIGHT in the Lord. My new motto!
Hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend.

Words to ponder. I've always heard to delight myself in the Lord and He will give me the desires of my heart. That can be taken a couple of ways. One, that when I have a close walk with God, then my desires are actually what He gave to me. On the other hand, if I do all the right things, then my desires will be granted. I believe the first is more in line with what was meant- for we should not have to earn God's favor by works.

"Delight" was the word front and center for me today also. I love the insight you shared with your scripture. We can always delight "in the Lord" regardless of our circumstances. Thanks and God Bless.

Thanks for sharing. It's easy to delight in the Lord when we get what we want, isn't it? Like children at a toy store. But when He says "No", it's a bit more difficult. I know I struggle with it. Also, I wonder what I've done lately that delights the Lord?

I think the name of your blog tells a wonderful story when it comes to delighting in the Lord. Sometimes we have to DIG for the Pearls. :)

There are so many deep truths in this verse, J'nell, isn't there?

His excellence. Something that we strive toward and won't completely obtain until Heaven. :)

Thanks for stopping by, J'nell.

Hi Dora,

I hope you have a lovely weekend too. I think you described it so perfectly. Delighting in the Lord... there is so much to chew on with that simple concept.

Thanks for taking the time to visit. :)

Hi Barbara,

I've heard the same thing. When we are in line with the Lord, our desires are the same as His. Not always an easy task though, is it? :)

Thanks for taking time to 'hop' over for a visit.

Hi Nancy,

Regardless of our circumstances... it takes willingness to step back and give Him praise despite what we see. Not always easy, is it?

So glad to have you pop by for a visit, Nancy. :)

Hi Tom,

Sorry for the delayed response. :) I'm so glad you stopped by for a visit.

Sometimes I wonder whether that struggle to delight will be something we'll continually face until we reach heaven. At least we have something to strive toward, right. :)

Amen Ginger. :) Often those 'pearls' are not littering the ground, but require digging deep in order to find them.

Thank you for stopping by for a visit. I hope you come back again. :)
